As you may or may not know, the construction industry is once again seeing a growth and is predicting a very big year in 2015. This is great news for people who work in the industry but it also means some very big changes need to take place in order for this to all happen properly.
A recent survey from the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC of America) shows the construction industry ready to hire the most workers in 10 years. This is great news but there is just one problem: there are not enough workers to fill the jobs.
More construction is big news for the economy but it seems there are not enough people to fill the demand for positions, in part due to the lull in the construction industry over the past few years. Workers have since retired or moved on to find other job fields.
“Residential building is going very strong. Commercial building is going very strong. You see roads and bridges are strong too,” said Michael Gifford with AGC of Colorado.
Recession times made it very tough on construction workers and the industry is now seeing a major decline in the number of workers, especially skilled workers. There is so much work and simply not enough people to do it. Many construction companies are now relying on contractors to help them complete jobs. That said, even subcontractors are getting overloaded with work, clocking long hours and overtime pay and still there is a demand for workers.
The industry is looking to hire at least 6,000 new people per year so this is a great time to get into it if you’re looking for a new career field or have always wanted to work in construction. There are hundreds of job openings right now. If you know someone who is looking for work in the construction industry, let them know that this is really a fantastic time for seeing a boom in the construction field and there is no better time than now to get on board.
